"The Waltons" and African Dancing
I grew up loving "The Waltons" tv series. I always wanted to be a part of a big family, live on a mountain, and go to a general store and buy candy from a lady named Corabeth. Hey, a kids gotta have dreams!
We plan on immersing ourselves in the German language and Austrian culture. However, since we will not have a full grasp of the German language right away, we thought that watching German tv might get old from time to time. In order to wash away the boredom, we bought the full 6th season of "The Waltons". Chris and I put the first cd in the other night and watched the first episode on the laptop ... pure heaven! I was instantly transported back in time to when I was a little girl. The only weird thing is that Ma and Pa don't look too much older than I do now ... what's that all about? Anyway, it was a sweet trip down memory lane.
Every Sunday night while here at the I.L.C. (International Learning Center) we get to experience a new cultural worship experience. We had services Latin American style, Pacific Rim style and now tonight African style. Our Parker is helping in this service! It will be one of the liveliest services thus far. She is participating in singing and dancing ... yes I did say dancing! I'm so glad we can praise God with our bodies and this girl has the moves to worship well!!
It's funny that she is willing to do this because a few years ago as I was praying for Parker the Lord gave me some things to pray for her. I've always seen her loving on kids in Africa some day ... her long blonde hair in native braids and her soul thriving because there isn't a clock to be followed! We'll see what God does ...
Addison is off to Norfolk, VA with 3 other students and 2 sponsors to Winterjam. It's a youth concert ... Toby Mac will be one of the featured artists ... some others but I'm too "out of the loop" to tell you who they are!
Well ... as I head back to our apartment for a cozy day of reading ... I leave you with this thought: what is wrong with fishcakes for breakfast? Find out the answer next time ...

Fishcakes??? Are you kidding? So how far is Norfolk away? Oh how I do miss you tonight. I was just sittin here watching the last part of the oscar's and just thinking of you. I hopw you have a great night and a great day tomorrow. Love your lil' sis.
ReplyDeleteAfrica, huh? Well Ghana is an amazing country! :) And if you need someone to take her there I'll go back. Jennifer is adjusting to life in America rather well despite the vast differences from Ghana. She is liking being in class with Kade who misses his friend a lot. Glad things are going well for you all. How fun to get to experience many different styles of worship from around the world.
ReplyDeleteHope Addison had fun at WinterJam, that will be in OKC this weekend I think-lots of fun.
That is soo awesome for Addison! Tell her that I am very excited for her. Everytime Winterjam came here that was all she would talk about. I am so glad she got to go before you guys head to Austria.
