Write Words

99% of the time, I write from a place of inspiration.  I write because events have moved me to the point of expression that only characters in black and white set in 11pt font can articulate.  Lately, however, inspiration has not been lacking but rather hidden under to do lists, poor health, or sunny days that force me out of doors.

This week, a tragedy hit our community.  A vibrant young man is missing and our small school community is grieving.  Emotions have seeped out of places at unexpected times.  We all carry the weight of the grieve for the family.  Hard.

This week, I took my first load of junk to Carita's (a Catholic Charity similar to Good Will) and the Mistplatz (dump).  This was on my "to do" list for October.  It's May.  It was the first "in your face" action that highlighted our upcoming move.  Reality.

This week, I opened our windows open wide and realized winter is finally over.  Cool evenings and warm days have returned.  On the cement walls of my apartment, green vines grow without human intervention.  They once again frame my white paned windows and remind me of the urban setting that I've grown accustomed to calling home.  Lovely.

This week, we gathered at a friends house for a grill party.  Families gathered outside - the first time since last year.  We ate and laughed and ran toes through healthy grass.   Without knowing, we made more memories that will come back often as we each go out separate ways in the coming weeks.  These friends, who are more like family, have become an integral part of our lives.  Wonderful.

In one week, this happened.
There's more, but not so blog-worthy.

However, in one week, both hard and ugly and lovely and wonderful all took place.  Is it any wonder why human brains often need breaks just to take it all in?

In reading Joshua, most times when God spoke to him, He began with "Don't be afraid.  Don't be discouraged."  Joshua's human condition often wore him down to the most primal of emotions:  fear and discouragement.  Yet, God created him to operate from a different place ... a place achievable only in Spirit:  courage.  Abundant life promotes us from earthly living.  It's not achievable in our human condition or in our own self-effort.  It's a gift given by Jesus, a gift He left us with - the Holy Spirit.  When unwrapping this wild and beautiful gift we are left with courage.

Unwrapping,
Christina

This weekend we traveled with the Junior Varsity Girls Volleyball team of the International Christian School of Vienna to Budapest, Hungary.  They played in a tournament and we got to cheer them on along with their coach, and two other parents!

Our Parker and her friends played 4 sets of 3 games (ok, the middle two games were only 2 games because they beat the other team so badly!) and won the tournament!  Afterwards, one of the coaches from the organizing school offered to let them play in the next Varsity tournament so they would have some "real" competition!  THEY ROCK!

I love the experiences our Addison got to have while her tenure at ICSV ... both academically but also with extra-curricular activities like Volleyball ... and now Parker.  On Parker's volleyball team, there are 6 players from 4 different countries.  They are gaining global perspectives that most teenagers their age do not have and for that I am so grateful!

And, if I can take the liberty to speak some encouraging words into the lives of those who work at ISCV, both as teachers and as other staff, this school is a unique and wonderful gathering of nations.  At it's heart, it strives to serve children of international families by giving them a good educational experience based on Christian values.  Their motto:  "Education for life".  And as a parent of one graduate and two current attenders, that's exactly what my children have gained:  an education for life.
Without the school, we would not be able to live and work in Vienna.

Having had friends who are educators, I know that this profession seems to be overlooked and underrated.  Put on top of that the calling these teachers at ICSV have to serve overseas, raise their own funds, sacrifice to live in a foreign country - it goes without saying this is an underrated responsibility.  And, from personal experience, these teachers are committed first to a calling they have down deep in their souls to serve God.  This is not a "job" for them ... this is a chance to make a difference and obey a calling they have to serve the Creator.

Bravo and may God bless ICSV!  Be encouraged and hopeful!  You are doing a great thing!!

The girls taking a quick lunch break.

Parker's killer serve!

Libby tagged along and appointed herself as Ms. Howard's Assistant Coach!

The "good game" hand thing!

The Champions!!

My girls have the privilege of going to a great school ... with a great library program ... with great books ... in English!  This week just happened to be "Book Week".  The elementary kids got to come to school this past Friday dressed as their favorite characters from their favorite books.

Libby just happens to be into all things Nancy Drew.  My Chris has introduced her to the old t.v. series.  With the help of her school librarian she has found the original Nancy Drew series books.  She has fully immersed herself into the mystery genre.  So, to be able to dress up as Nancy, when in her heart she really IS Nancy ... is a girls dream come true!

Take a gander at the photos of our little girl detective:

Nancy must keep her clues in a safe and secure place ... like a "Clue Book"

Nancy is shocked to read of her own mysteries.  How will the mystery ever be solved?

Chapter 12:  Frightening Eyes

Nancy's Frightening Eyes

And still more frightening eyes ... with her handy dandy super mystery solving eye glasses!

About Me

My photo
I love to write. I love to tell stories. I've been writing since I was a kid; it's just something I do. With a cup of coffee in one hand, I attempt to show our ordinary life in an up close, personal, and authentic way. I make no apologies for my belief in a Life Author, God, who desires to show us who He is. Thus, I see our journeys as purposeful adventures. I am a wife. My Chris and I have been married since 1991. Everyday I wake up and find him in my bed, looking at me with no makeup on and dark circles under my eyes, I thank GOD he is a man of faithful endurance! I am Mom to 3 girls: Addison, Parker and Libby. They challenge me to be all I was created to be. I hope you come away with something useful, inspiring, humorous, or helpful. That's my goal ... and why I scribble words on a page. Enjoy!
