Shaked Up

I read something recently that left me scrathing my head.  This is what it says:

"Don't just pretend to love others.  Really love them.  Love each other with genuine affection and take delight in honoring each other.  Bless those who persecute you.  Don't curse them, pray that they will be blessed.  Be happy with those who are hapy, and weep with those who weep.  Live in harmony with each other." (Bits and pieces from Romans 12:9-16)

Working with young people and hearing their ideas of what it means to be human, to love God, to be a world changer ... I hear them echoing some of these same ideas.  What's weird is that very often I do not hear ... or see ... my contemporaries jumping on the same band wagon.  Generally speaking, some of us who have been around the block a time or two have lost our passion.

These words shake me up.  I love, honor, bless, am happy, weep and live in harmony too often on my own terms.  Ouch.  What would happen if I laid asside my experiences of the past ... and just did what these words suggest ... command?

I dare say those who follow Jesus could rock our corners of the world if we just did what the writer above recomends.
