Letter to Baby

Dear little sweet baby girl I am leaving today,

As I sit in the living room and you sleep in the room next to me, I am full of thoughts and dreams for your little future.  Right now, God has seen fit that I should be a person in your life.  Because your parents and I are friends, you and I are thrown together in a love relationship.  With the uncertainty of life, and the mobility of our company, who knows how long we will be in close enough proximity to one another to make long weekend visits.  One thing is for certain ... you are etched in my heart.

Because I have children of my own and am older ... lots older than you ... I see your present as just a fleeting moment.  This babyhood of yours will rapidly come to an end despite the lack of sleep and long hours your Momma is putting in right now towards your well being.  Before you know it ... and right before your Momma and Daddy's eyes, you will be grown.

Right now, I want you to enjoy every stage of your life.  Right now, I want you to appreciate being totally dependent on two adults that you will call your parents.  Right now, I want you to love naps and adore all the attention that is poured over you like warm syrup on a hot pancake.

Soon enough, my sweet little baby girl, you will be a grown up.  Perhaps one day, you, too, will sit in a living room of a dear friend listening to the cooing of another baby girl.  It's only then that you will be able to appreciate what has been.  It's only then that you will look back and see the rapid progression of years that has gotten you to this point in your life.

Hold on, little sweet baby girl.  Hold on to the hands that love and adore you.
