Old Jeans - New Lesson
I hate to buy clothes. I thought that I just hated buying clothes in Europe. Turns out, that's not the case. I don't know that I can give a solitary reason for my disdain. There are just so many factors that go into my strong feelings:
- I'm not a teenager but I'm not ready for Granny clothes. Where, o where, are normal women's clothes sold?
- My taste is way more expensive than my budget.
- In my mind, things look way better than when I try it on.
- Dressing room mirrors and fluorescent lights are nightmares.
Last week, I went to a local store that I tend to consider out of my budget. They had a SALE sign in the window which, naturally, caught my attention. I sheepishly walked past all the "high dollar" normal clothes and back to the dimly lit back room where the CLEARANCE stuff hung on broken down racks. Not really ... just my imagination getting the best of me!!
To my great surprise, they had jeans on sale and in my price range. As I slid hangers of jeans past the rack to find my size, my bubble burst. The perky, yet classy, sales woman came up to me, obviously noticing my crest fallen appearance, and announced that I could order those jeans and have them shipped to my house free. I would still get the sale price. It's a win/win for me!!
My jeans came today. I'm wearing them right now ... and feel ... fabulous!
How many times do WE decide certain things are out of our reach spiritually? Just like I held a wrong belief about my fabulous jean store and got the deal of a lifetime, how often do I consider spiritual maturity, fruit, peace and purpose so out of reach for me ... because of ... whatever reason I have chosen to fill in the blank. I'm discovering that God is not like my jean store that I thought was too expensive. His gifts are not even reserved for me in a dimly lit clearance rack. This God who rules the universe lovingly wraps His gifts in delightful packages just waiting for me to discover! If HE owned a jean store, I could walk right in and buy anything off the rack and charge it to my father's account ... and He'd gladly pay it! He's crazy about me ... and I love discovering how much!!
sporting age appropriate jeans and looking good,
christina
